Why are we a Messenger?

The EQUUS Foundation has designated our organization as a Messenger. Click here to learn more about our horse care and use practices.

Messengers are organizations on the Equine Welfare Network that demonstrate a commitment to public transparency and accountability by their willingness to publish and share extensive data about their operations.

Equine Welfare Network Messenger

Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation):  Public Service

Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care of horses to provide its services.

70% of our total programs and services are horse-related.

Our organization conducts its horse-related programs at one facility.

Our organization operates programs involved with horses and other animals.

Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
CRISTA Camps offer character-building outdoor recreational experiences for children and youth through summer camps (including specialty camps for military kids, foster kids, and inner-city kids); day camps; therapeutic riding classes; retreats; and family camps.

At Miracle Ranch, horses are the main attraction, and our camp activities often revolve around our horse program where horses are used to educate children and adults about horses through various programs such as trail rides, arena classes, ground work, a therapeutic riding program, and more.

CRISTA Camps at Island Lake and Miracle Ranch is a ministry of CRISTA, a family of ministries loving God by serving people worldwide in the areas of education, international relief & development, senior living, and media. CRISTA Camps, as well as the other six CRISTA ministries, serve all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender.

Horse-related programs:
We provide basic riding lessons to children and adults throughout the year. We also have a year round therapeutic riding program, taught by PATH certified instructors. In addition, we provide horsemanship activities to campers that attend our camp throughout the school year and summer. This includes horse science/ground classes, western riding, english riding, trail riding, and vaulting classes. We also partner with an organization that works with homeless/at-risk youth, and their youth regularly come out and participate in a horsemanship program (both riding and ground work) with our staff/volunteers.

Non-horse-related programs:
We are a year round camping facility, and provide room, board, and activities for non-profit groups to use. We have a variety of small animals, including goats, cows, chickens, pigs, and rabbits which are used in a variety of programs. These programs include animal science classes, petting zoos on location, as well as we will bring our animals to events and fundraisers around the area and put on petting zoos. We provide other adventure activities including paintball, archery, a ropes course, and a waterfront.
