Why are we a Messenger?

The EQUUS Foundation has designated our organization as a Messenger. Click here to learn more about our horse care and use practices.

Messengers are organizations on the Equine Welfare Network that demonstrate a commitment to public transparency and accountability by their willingness to publish and share extensive data about their operations.

Equine Welfare Network Messenger

Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation):  Public Service

Our organization operates programs involved with providing equine assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) using certified instructors for individuals with special needs.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care of horses to provide its services.

100% of our total programs and services are horse-related.

Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
We Can Ride, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer-based organization whose mission is to challenge those living with physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioral disabilities by enhancing their skills and well being through programs of therapeutic horseback riding and carriage driving.

Horse-related programs:
We provide therapeutic horseback riding and hippotherapy to children and adults with a wide variety of disabilities such as cerebral palsy, autism, brain injury, blindness, hypotonia and Down Syndrome. From our first group of six riders, the organization has grown to serve over 300 clients annually extending across a seven county area. We have had successful cooperative relationships including Hennepin County (for 34 years), Transitions Plus, Eden Prairie Parks & Recreation, and several private clinics and stables. We Can Ride, Inc is a Premier Accredited center with PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) International. PATH has established an accreditation process and an instructor certification process to ensure that operating centers run safe and medically appropriate programs that conform to specific standards. Over the years, we have helped clients learn to walk, talk, improve social skills and make friends.
