Why are we a Messenger?

The EQUUS Foundation has designated our organization as a Messenger. Click here to learn more about our horse care and use practices.

Messengers are organizations on the Equine Welfare Network that demonstrate a commitment to public transparency and accountability by their willingness to publish and share extensive data about their operations.

Equine Welfare Network Messenger

Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation):  Horse Welfare

Our organization operates programs involved with horse rescue, foster care, rehabilitation, adoption and/or retirement.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care of horses to provide its services.

100% of our total programs and services are horse-related.

Our organization conducts its horse-related programs at one facility.

Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
Eliminate the causes of equine suffering through education and community outreach programs, rescue abused and neglected equines, and provide permanent sanctuary or selected foster homes for those equines.

Horse-related programs:
We rescue abused, abandoned and neglected horses and offer them permanent sanctuary or approved foster/adoptive homes. We also accept off track horses through the CARMA placement program, we rehabilitate these horses and have a training program to get them ready for second careers. We have a program called Helping Hooves which is an assistance program designed to provide aid for horse owners in need of assistance for feed, veterinary, or farrier needs. This is a one time financial assistance to help owners get through unforseen circumstances that temorarily threaten their ability to provide for their horses. Redwings also works with the Salinas school district to allow at risk teenagers to come learn about horses and work with them.

Non-horse-related programs:
We do not have any non horse related programs
