Why are we a Messenger?

The EQUUS Foundation has designated our organization as a Messenger. Click here to learn more about our horse care and use practices.

Messengers are organizations on the Equine Welfare Network that demonstrate a commitment to public transparency and accountability by their willingness to publish and share extensive data about their operations.

Equine Welfare Network Messenger

Primary Focus involving horses (Horse Welfare, Public Service, Sport & Recreation):  Horse Welfare

Our organization operates programs involved with horse rescue, foster care, rehabilitation, adoption and/or retirement.

Our organization is directly responsible for the care of horses to provide its services.

100% of our total programs and services are horse-related.

Our organization conducts its horse-related programs at one facility.

Our Mission/How we are involved with horses:
Our sanctuary offers safe care and refuge to all horses who pass through our gates. We provide all their needs be it shelter, feed, vet or farrier care, and most of all unconditional love and attention.

Horse-related programs:
We take in unwanted surrendered horses (up to our capacity of about 15) and provide health/farrier care, training, boarding, grooming, whatever is needed to make them adoptable. We carefully screen adopters and have strict policies re: adoptions. Horses that cannot be restored for adoption stay at our sanctuary for the rest of their lives. During rare times with no waiting list, we may purchase a horse destined for slaughter, and start them on a journey to a new life in a loving home. We also hold a monthly "visitors' day" so the community has a chance to visit our horses and learn about unwanted horses. We also enjoy having children at these events so they can learn how to be kind to animals.

Non-horse-related programs:
We invite as many local animal rescue groups as are interested to attend and display for free at our annual open house/fund-raiser. They are welcome to do fund-raising activities, show animals for adoption or just to make people aware of their programs.
