Emmaline is a 5-year-old pony mare that came to BAHR on October 22, 2025. She was totally crippled and could not walk more than a few steps at a time because her owner kept her on a small rug in her home and never gave her any veterinary, dental or farrier support, never let her outside, and never helped her to grow up to be a horse. Mentally ill, the woman just kept her around for company.

When we picked her up, Emmaline's hooves were grossly overgrown and misshapen, and her legs were very distorted. After x rays and veterinary evaluation, our farrier correctively trimmed her feet and our massage therapist worked on her knotted muscles and twisted ligaments and tendons.

It took a month before Emmy would stand up to eat her grain/hay and another one before this sweet little mare showed a little spunk and hiked her butt with joy.

While we think that she will never be totally normal physically, her personality has blossomed. She runs and plays with her 2-year-old miniature horse companion, bucking, galloping and shaking her mane in mock battle. Everyone loves this pony because of the joy she is finding as she learns to be a horse again.
