MISSION & PROGRAMS
Mission:Brayhope Farm believes that the bond between humans and animals is a mutually beneficial relationship that can foster the health and well-being of both. The Mission of the corporation is to provide members of the public with the positive therapeutic effects of animal assisted activities in a compassionate, safe and professional manner, and to achieve educational goals through community service programs in an effort to enhance the quality of life for people in the community who interact with the animals, as well as the animals themselves.
Our organization provides outreach and/or public education programs involving horses.
Over 90% of our total programs and services are equine-related.
Our organization is directly responsible for the care and shelter of equines involved in our programs.

Summary of organization's recent accomplishments, goals, strategies to achieve the goals, and capabilities to meet the goals, including its long-term plans to sustain its programs:In 2024 - our first full year of programs - we more than tripled the number of visitors to the farm. Our community outreach expanded to include groups of special needs people from our local schools, local special needs groups (including support to caregivers), ARISE, CiTi BOCES, and YMCA Respite. Our volunteers have included retired people, homeschoolers, special needs people and families with children. As we look to the future, we plan to increase the number of special needs who visit. But our focus isn't just on numbers. We aim to continue providing a unique, beneficial experience.......a compassionate, safe, and professional environment that enhances the quality of life of our visitors and our animals. We also plan to continue attending off-site activities with the mini donkeys, to support other nonprofits and increase awareness of our mission.
Safety will remain a constant priority. In 2024 we created a Biosecurity Plan to reduce and prevent biological risks including infectious disease and the spread of pathogens. This gives our volunteers and management guidelines for equipment provisions; hygiene and sanitary conditions; cleaning and disinfection; general medical procedures; care for sick animals; and quarantine management. Our Preparedness Emergency/Safety Plan has been drafted and will be finalized in 2025.
At the Board of Directors level, we continued to strengthen our governance and build our committee structure. We approved the creation of an Advisory Council and have added members that will bring in the outside voices and talent to advise, assist, and work with the Board and management. 2025 will see the formation of other committees that will continue to enhance our organization.
A 2025 goal is to improve farm accessibility for visitors who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility assistance. The farm driveway will be extended to the barn front door for easy drop off, pick up and turnaround of vehicles transporting people with mobility issues. The entryway gate to the interactive goat area will also be modified; doubling the width for easier access. A grant has been awarded to cover $5000 of the required total of $12,000. We have obtained $2500 thru fundraising and will continue to hold fundraisers thru 2025 for the balance of this project.

2) all equines in the care of our organization and/or equines that participate in the organization's program have access to clean drinking water at all times; nutritious food in sufficient quantity, including natural forage such as pasture grass and/or hay; appropriate veterinary, farrier, and dental care; shelter and protection from the weather; sufficient safe space to move around comfortably on a daily basis; and daily opportunity to freely interact and have contact with other equines:
1) Our donkeys are not restrained for farm visits. They have the option to participate, or they can simply move to another paddock. They are not stressed out. They enjoy their interactions with our visitors. Visitors are instructed to respect the animals, and that if they move away, let them go freely. Otherwise, the visitors are allowed to brush the donkeys and goats (which they love). When we have large group visits, there are experienced volunteers and staff monitoring the visits to ensure that all animals are being respected and are respectful themselves.
2) Water buckets are filled 2-3x per day and cleaned by volunteers a couple of times a month. Hay is given morning, noon (hay & straw) and night as they have a small grazing area. A balancer pellet is given each evening when they come in at night. They have free access to salt blocks; white, mineral and selenium. Vet checks are annual for vaccinations and as needed throughout the year. Hoof trims are every 6-8 weeks; dental care as needed. Run-in shed outside and stalls in the barn inside. Four different paddocks they can access freely (unless closed off for cleaning, etc). Turnout as a herd so they interact and play with each other all day long!
Outreach and/or Public Education:

Most of our visitors are special needs people that are animal lovers and are excited about making the connection with our miniature donkeys. Fun facts about donkeys are shared with the visitors as they learn how to brush them properly and learn about general health and maintenance.
We traveled off-site in 2024 as we were invited to attend CountryMax Oswego Fall Festival with four of our donkeys. We made connections with families of special needs people and homeschool groups. We shared information about the donkeys themselves and about donkeys in general. This visit sparked interest in new volunteers and visitors.
Research/Medical Use of Equines:Our organization has never made, and would not ever consider making, equines available for research studies or medical training that involves invasive procedures and/or that which may cause pain or suffering to the equine.
Religious Affiliation:Our organization does not promote religious education, religious purposes, or a specific religious faith or use donations for religious education or religious purposes; require participants to be of a certain faith; require participation in religious, instruction, activities or services; or require participation in prayer, worship, religious instruction or other religious activities as a condition of receiving social or secular services offered.
Auction Donation:Our organization has never allowed, or would not consider allowing, an equine to be sold, transferred, released, or otherwise placed into possession of any person or organization that would cause or allow the equine to be sold at auction for slaughter.

The farm has 7 Nigerian Dwarf goats that connect with our special needs visitors and their families as well. Personal interaction along with learning a bit about goats too!
