MISSION & PROGRAMS

Mission:
Tiny Acres Northwest Florida provides rescue, rehabilitation, education, and adoption services for previously abused and neglected horses through owner surrender and law enforcement assistance. We aim to provide rehabilitation services while being a resource to our equine community in teaching proper horse care.

Summary of organization's recent accomplishments, goals, strategies to achieve the goals, and capabilities to meet the goals, including its long-term plans to sustain its programs:
In 2024, Tiny Acres Northwest Florida provided 16 at-risk horses with proper care and rehabilitation. Our endeavors were made possible by the assistance of local law enforcement along with multiple private who were seeking proper placement for their horses. Our organization provided the community with educational seminars on proper equine care, emergency equine care, and feed bank assistance. Our goals to continue our outreach programs and equine intake programs are continued by the dedication of our volunteers and the fundraising success of our seasonal Open House events on-site. Our future goal is to continue being advocates for senior and hospice horses by holding more training opportunities for our local law enforcement and new and potential horse owners. We hope that by offering additional training opportunities, we will be able to successfully change the lives of future horses by educating new owners on proper horse care which will produce fewer at-risk horses. Tiny Acres Northwest Florida strives to be the beacon of equine care knowledge for any who would like to learn in hopes that a seed of knowledge can be planted and shared with others.



Please describe what steps your organization takes to ensure that:

1) all interactions between your equines and people are mutually beneficial and conducted in accordance with the Guidelines for Human-Equine Interactions stated below;
2) all equines in the care of our organization and/or equines that participate in the organization's program have access to clean drinking water at all times; nutritious food in sufficient quantity, including natural forage such as pasture grass and/or hay; appropriate veterinary, farrier, and dental care; shelter and protection from the weather; sufficient safe space to move around comfortably on a daily basis; and daily opportunity to freely interact and have contact with other equines:

All equines at Tiny Acres Northwest Florida are provided a quarantined area upon intake which includes shelter, 24/7 access to hay and fresh water, an appropriate feeding schedule based on each equine's individual needs along with proper turnout time to exercise. Equines that have successfully quarantined at Tiny Acres Northwest Florida have their own stall or paddock suited to their needs with a man-made shelter of three sides and a roof along with suitable bedding and a personal turnout space. During pasture turnout, all horses are on a schedule to turn out in the main pasture in small herds to maintain happiness and pasture health. Volunteers are present during the week to ensure that all manure and wasted hay are picked and paddocks, stalls, and pastures are clean. All equines are on a 6-week farrier schedule, biannual Veterinary visits, annual dental, and veterinary visits as needed monthly. Our goal is to provide our horses with proper care and sufficient space to ensure they remain happy and healthy in a safe, caring environment which they greatly deserve.

Equine Transition Services:
Overview of our programs involved with rescue, rehabilitation, retraining, re-homing and/or retirement:
     Rescue Operations - We work closely with local law enforcement and animal welfare authorities to be a resource for safe placement of equines through seizure cases due to cruelty cases.
     
     Rehabilitation Program - Partnered with our equine veterinarian, we cater a rehabilitative plan to include a strict refeeding protocol to properly improve the equine in need. The rehabilitative program also encompasses care and improvement plans for lameness and longevity concerns.
     
     Training - We train in natural horsemanship and only utilizes such practices with each equine. We do everything from gentling, desensitizing, or refreshing on handling/training catered to the equines basic or advanced understanding.
     
     Adoption Program - We provide adoption services to members of our community through strict vetting practices. We require a completed and approved adoption application, which includes reference checks for equine veterinarian, farrier, equine professional and or personal references. A member of our team will also conduct a site check of the facility/location where the adopted equine is to reside upon a successfully completed adoption process, verifying safe fencing and adequate shelter. The adopter is required to interact in person, at our facility with the equine of interest for our adoption team to monitor those interactions.
     
     Foster Program - Our foster program mirrors our adoption program with the exception of the adoption contract. Fosters must complete a foster application and be vetted in the same manner as potential adopters and interact with the foster horse prior to an official approval. Fosters also have a foster agreement that states they cannot overburden/work or others place any fostered equine in a dangerous or potentially life-threatening situation, no leasing, rehoming, breeding or sending to auction/slaughter and must notify our organization immediately with any concerns relating to their ability to foster or the equines health and current status.
     
     Sanctuary Services - Our organization provides sanctuary services to equines who are non-adoptable and or are at their end-o-f life stages. Equines with significant health concerns, that are considered hospice care reside with our organization for the remainder of their lives in a retirement status.

Outreach and/or Public Education:
Overview of our programs involved with providing outreach and/or public education programs involving horses:
     Tiny Acres Northwest Florida provides our local community with a wide range of services, from horse blanket drives to educational seminars on proper horse care. Tiny Acres Northwest Florida is home to our program, Horses From Hospice, which aims to provide a safe place for horses who have been or will soon be left behind due to their owners failing health or death. Our goal with Horses from Hospice is to lessen the number of horses that enter the local livestock auction due to the recent loss of their owner. Each year, we provide a Free Horse Blanket Drive for horses in need during colder months to ensure owners can properly insulate high-risk horses in the bitter cold Northwest Florida weather during February and March. In the Spring, we offer equine emergency care clinics called, 'While You Wait on the Vet', to our local horse owners to help prepare them for common equine emergencies and some of their remedies while waiting for the vet to arrive. Year-long, to ensure more horses remain with their owners during short durations of financial hardship, we provide feed and hay assistance, which, in turn, keeps more horses in their homes.

Research/Medical Use of Equines:
Our organization has never made, and would not ever consider making, equines available for research studies or medical training that involves invasive procedures and/or that which may cause pain or suffering to the equine. 

Religious Affiliation:
Our organization does not promote religious education, religious purposes, or a specific religious faith or use donations for religious education or religious purposes; require participants to be of a certain faith; require participation in religious, instruction, activities or services; or require participation in prayer, worship, religious instruction or other religious activities as a condition of receiving social or secular services offered. 

Auction Donation:
Our organization has never allowed, or would not consider allowing, an equine to be sold, transferred, released, or otherwise placed into possession of any person or organization that would cause or allow the equine to be sold at auction for slaughter. 


POLICIES: INTAKE, ASSESSMENT & TRAINING

Prior to a horse being accepted and/or arriving at the facility, the organization has the following policies in place:
    The owner of a potential equine is interviewed over the phone or in person prior to seeing the equine
