Mission:
Empowering individuals with disabilities through compassionate equine assisted services.

Our organization conducts Equine Assisted Services in accordance with the EQUUS Foundation Guidelines on Qualifications of Organizations Conducting Equine Assisted Services (EAS).
Our organization provides community outreach and/or public education programs involving horses.
Our organization is directly responsible for the care and shelter of equines involved in our programs.
100% of our total programs and services are equine-related.

Summary of organization's recent accomplishments, goals, strategies to achieve the goals, and capabilities to meet the goals, including its long-term plans to sustain its programs:
Accomplishments
     2023 was a milestone year for LoveWay. We commemorated our 50th anniversary with an event honoring our founder, celebrating our work in the community, and sharing our vision for the future. Over 400 guests joined us for family fun including train rides, food trucks, kids’ activities, and interaction with our miniature horses.
     Another highlight was receiving a vehicle for the Nosey Neighbor program. Two corporate community partners donated a van and interior stalls to take LoveWay’s miniature horses on the road. The Nosey Neighbor program serves children and senior citizens who are homebound or otherwise confined by their diagnosis. The addition of the dedicated vehicle provides great opportunities for growth of the program.
     Another exciting community collaboration brought together local manufacturers and building suppliers to provide LoveWay with a park model home. The home enables us to offer on-site housing to interns and new staff members as they seek permanent housing while relocating. LoveWay is committed to attracting and retaining talented individuals to our team as we seek to serve more students and expand our programming.
     Our greatest accomplishment was serving 153 priceless children on a weekly basis. LoveWay served sixteen schools representing four different school corporations. Our dedicated and passionate team of 161 volunteers gave 5,124 hours of assistance.
     
     Goals
     Over the past several years, demand for LoveWay’s services has increased exponentially. LoveWay currently serves 16 schools representing four different school corporations. 16 additional schools are on a waiting list. We also serve a limited number of home-based students, with 35 more on the waiting list. LoveWay’s strategic plan includes renovating and expanding our aging facilities and transforming our operational model to meet our community’s demand for equine assisted services.
     Over the next two years, five key goals have been identified to bring this future vision to fruition.
     
     Goal 1: Build Board Capacity
     
     Strategy A: Create a board training program for the 2024 fiscal year that equips members to better understand LoveWay’s programs, build board unity, and clarity in their role in governance and ownership of LoveWay’s mission.
     • Establish new board sub-committees, that involve community stakeholders and friends, that support and guide the fundraising, finance & facilities, and programs of LoveWay.
     • Write sub-committee descriptions including roles and responsibilities.
     Strategy B: Create a process for new board member recruitment and nomination.
     Strategy C: Develop a staff leadership development program that supports the learning and prosperity of our staff.
     
     Goal 2: Adapt LoveWay’s financial model to provide a more balanced and sustainable resource to fuel our mission over the long term.
     
     Strategy A: Develop new revenue streams over the next three years that expand our sources of revenue that balance our reliance on annual charitable giving and special event fundraising.
     • Initiate revenue generating programs that leverage our knowledge and experience in the industry.
     • Establish a bequest society and endowment giving program that creates permanent financial resources to support LoveWay’s mission and meet donor’s desires to make an estate gift.
     • Create endowment investment and spending policies that provide a percentage of their resource to our annual operational budget.
     • Build out a major gifts program that secures larger gifts from those individuals committed to LoveWay’s mission and vision.
     Strategy B: Build out a cash flow positive operational budget that sustains a two-arena program.
     • Ensure that our horses have the medical and equipment resources needed to thrive.
     Strategy C: Develop an implementation plan that operationalizes the above expansion.
     • Determine the new operational costs to be added to our annual budget and how best to pay for those costs.
     Strategy D: Establish a finance and building committee to oversee LoveWay’s finances and property management issues.
     
     Goal 3: Ensure that our facilities meet our current and envisioned future programing needs.
     
     Strategy A: Determine the facility expansion we need to meet the demand for our service.

     Strategy C: Develop a facilities team to support the oversite of this expansion.
     
     Goal 4: Expand operational programming, staffing, and office systems to support this future growth.

Overview of our programs involved with providing EAS to individuals with special needs:
     LoveWay empowers individuals with disabilities through compassionate equine assisted services. Every individual served has a diagnosed physical, cognitive, or emotional disability. Common diagnoses among LoveWay participants include autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, ADHD, epilepsy, developmental delays, and learning differences. Over 60% of participants have more than one diagnosis.
     LoveWay’s Adaptive Riding program teaches horsemanship and adaptive riding skills to elementary-aged participants with disabilities. This program positively impacts student development physically, cognitively, and emotionally. Additionally, students form relationships with horses, staff and volunteers which improve social interaction skills. The horse, instructor and volunteer team remain consistent for each child throughout each eight-week session, providing continuity and highly personalized lessons.
     LoveWay’s Advanced Horsemanship unmounted program combines equine activities with an experience-based curriculum to promote the development of life skills and employability skills for middle school and high school students.


Community Outreach and/or Public Education:
Overview of our programs involved with providing community outreach and/or public education programs involving horses:
     LoveWay offers several opportunities for community outreach and public education. One of the most anticipated events is our annual trail ride. The local community is invited to participate on our facility grounds which raises awareness of our programs as well our volunteer and horse needs.
      Additionally, LoveWay offers a free virtual learning program called "Barn Buddies" on our website and YouTube channel. Each video lesson is approximately 20 minutes long and has additional resources that reinforce what is learned. These fun and engaging videos can be used both in the classroom or at home by anyone interested in learning more about equines.
     The Nosey Neighbor program uses miniature horses to serve those in our community who are homebound due to their disability. Sessions may include grooming and petting interaction, engaging conversations and emotional connections with the horse.

Research/Medical Use of Equines:
Our organization has never made, and would not ever consider making, equines available for research studies or medical training that involves invasive procedures and/or that which may cause pain or suffering to the equine.

Our organization does not promote religious education, religious purposes, or a specific religious faith or use donations for religious education or religious purposes; require participants to be of a certain faith; require participation in religious, instruction, activities or services; or require participation in prayer, worship, religious instruction or other religious activities as a condition of receiving social or secular services offered.

All equines brought to LoveWay must complete a 30-day trial. All equines will need to be examined by a veterinarian and pass a veterinarian examination. During this trial the Director of Equine Development and Instructors will work with equines to determine if they will fit into LoveWay's Adaptive Riding Program. At the end of the 30-day trial the Director of Equine Development will meet with all Instructors and decide if the horse is suitable for the program.


POLICIES: INTAKE, ASSESSMENT & TRAININING

Prior to a horse being accepted and/or arriving at the facility, the organization requires the following with respect to the health status of the horse:
