If you're a fan of international show jumper Beezie Madden, then you are likely familiar with her world-class mount, Darry Lou. The 2008 Dutch warmblood stallion has become a stalwart in the talented lineup of mounts for four-time USEF Equestrian of the Year and Olympic gold medalist Madden, as the pair have captured numerous international wins since their partnership began in 2017.

The 2019 competition year was highlighted with several historic finishes for Madden and Darry Lou as they capped an exceptionally strong seasonal campaign with back-to-back wins at the prestigious Spruce Meadows 'Masters' CSIO5*. Following a win in the Tourmaline Oil Cup 1.60m, Madden and Darry Lou went on to secure top honors in the world's largest grand prix, the $3 Million CP International Grand Prix presented by Rolex, besting a field of 49 renowned competitors.

After winning the $3 Million CP International Grand Prix, Madden shared, "[Darry Lou] is really nothing but a pleasure to ride, I always say if anything goes wrong it is my fault because he does exactly what I ask him to do."

Their 2019 campaign began at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) where they secured the top spot in the $209,000 Marshall & Sterling Grand Prix CSI4* before going on to top the AIG $1 Million Grand Prix in Thermal, Calif., in April. Madden and Darry Lou earned two additional wins during the 'National' Tournament at Spruce Meadows in June, and produced a double-clear effort for the NetJetsŪ U.S. Jumping Team during the Nations Cup Aachen CSIO5* competition prior to earning a top-10 finish in the Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen in July.

Madden and Darry Lou's success began far before their stellar 2019 campaign, though. At the beginning of their journey together in 2017, Madden and Darry Lou recorded their first big win together with Team USA as they captured gold in the Nations Cup CSIO5* at Spruce Meadows.
Later in 2017, Madden and Darry Lou were part of the USA Jumping Team at the Nations Cup Final CSIO5* in Barcelona where they helped the team earn the silver medal.

Throughout 2018, Darry Lou proved his talent in the show ring and earned himself a pillar role in Madden's string of horses. Madden and Darry Lou's success as a team continued as they travelled internationally to some of the world's most recognizable shows, ultimately earning Darry Lou the USEF 2019 International Horse of the Year award.

Now owned by Jennifer Gates and Evergate Stables, they are looking forward to seeing what is next for Darry Lou!
