PVF Peace of Mind, the charismatic
Morgan mare, reached unbelievable heights in 2015, achieving the highest honor as the International Horse of the Year by the
United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) with owner
Suzy Stafford. In an astonishing feat of competitive excellence in the carriage, "Hunny" won in each of her three
FEI combined driving events this year, including the
CAI2* Hermitage Classic in Goshen, Kentucky, the prestigious CAI2*
Kentucky Classic CDE in Lexington, Kentucky, and a second consecutive win at the CAI2*
Live Oak International Horse Show in Ocala, Florida.
Most importantly, Hunny's dominating performance in all three phases of competition at Hermitage earned her and Stafford the 2015 USEF Single Horse Driving National Championship by an incredible 14-point margin over their closest rival. Hunny has been undefeated in the dressage arena this year with Stafford. Demonstrating her versatility under saddle, Hunny was undefeated at First Level ridden dressage and crowned First Level Show Champion at the popular
Massachusetts Morgan Horse Show in the summer of 2015.
Stafford's interest in horses began at a young age, rising through the ranks of the
United States Pony Club in her early years. After a leg injury ended her riding career, she channeled her competitive drive into carriage driving. Stafford never looked back. Operating
Stafford Carriage Driving out of Chester County, Pennsylvania, Stafford was the youngest and first American driver to win an Individual Gold Medal with Horse Stars Hall of Fame inductee
Cefnoakpark Bouncer at the 2005 World Pony Driving Championships in England. She continued to drive to success with Horse Stars Hall of Fame inductee
Courage to Lead.
Hunny was purchased for Stafford with the goal of breaking into the horse division of carriage driving and kicked off her show career in 2011. Stafford cleverly speaking for Hunny in the
video announcing their USEF nomination said, "I am preparing to take on the world. Sounds like huge shoes to fill, right? Well, I'm ready for this trip of a lifetime. Don't underestimate the power of a Morgan horse." If anyone had underestimated Morgans before, clearly no one will now. The pair has proven to be unbeatable.
"This girl is very special - one of a kind! She has a lot of personality and character which is what makes her such a competitor. She always knows when it's show time and turns it on with focus and concentration," Stafford said. "She is a show horse, through and through!"
