The Sun Shined Through at Old Salem to Showcase Adoptable and Recently Adopted Horses

After more than a week of intermittent rain and thunderstorms, the sun came out on Sunday, May 20th, not only for the always exciting $130,000 Empire State Grand Prix at the Old Salem Spring Horse Show, but also to showcase horses that are currently up for adoption and horses that were recently adopted as part of the EQUUS Foundation Next Chapters program.

EQUUS Foundation EQUUStars, Brianne Goutal-Marteau, Georgina Bloomberg and Clementine Goutal took time out from their competition schedules to help inspire spectators to step up to protect America's horses and ensure that they are cared for throughout their lives.

It was love at first sight for Clementine Goutal and Oliver Twist, an adoptable 14.2 hand black Quarter horse gelding brought by Rising Starr Horse Rescue (RSHR) in Redding, Connecticut. "He would make a wonderful lesson horse, and is suitable for competition, recreation and equine assisted activities for people with special needs," said RSHR Founder Kelly Stackpole.

Valerie Angeli, VP of Communications and Special Projects who organized the event said, "We are so grateful to the team at Old Salem Farm for once again giving us the opportunity to educate horse lovers and the equine community that horses in transition need our help to be able to continue to flourish as companions, teachers, and healers."

13 Hands

13 Hands Horse Rescue showcased two adorable adoptable ponies, Buster and Cash. Buster is a seven-year old, 12.2 hand, sorrel tobiano Paint gelding who enjoys being around other horses and loves meeting new people. Cash is also a seven-year old, 12.2 hand gelding who is cute and sweet.

New Canaan Mounted Troop

When it came time for Zoey, an 11-year old Welsh show pony, to find a new home, Zoey's owners wanted to explore all the options available and turned to the EQUUS Foundation for advice.

It turned out that Zoey's next chapter was with the New Canaan Mounted Troop, where she continues to lead a productive life teaching children and adults about horsemanship.

Buxton Farm NY brought their new miniature horses, Cody and Cookie, who were adopted from EQUUS Foundation Guardian partner, Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation (ERAF) of Palm City, Florida, at the EQUUS Foundation #RideForHorses Rally in Wellington, Florida in January sponsored by Upper Echelon Academy.

"This was a day to celebrate all that horses mean to us and to showcase some of our equine re-homing success stories", continued Angeli. We had a wonderful day advocating for horses. They are ALL champions to us, and where they go next matters!"
