Carrie Hull Joins the EQUUS Foundation as VP, Planning and Philanthropy
The EQUUS Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Carrie Hull as VP, Planning and Philanthropy. Carrie's first official capacity will be to represent the EQUUS Foundation at the Hampton Classic's Animal Adoption Day on Monday, August 26, where the EQUUS Foundation will present rescued horses and horses in transition seeking a second chance and new homes and careers.
"We are honored to have Carrie join our team. Her fundraising expertise along with her nonprofit management skills will help secure the future of our organization through the development of a major gift and endowment campaign." said EQUUS Foundation Board Chair, Jenny Belknap Kees.
A resident of Washington, DC, Carrie has lifelong ties to the Maryland horse community and will continue to serve as Executive Director of the Maryland Horse Council (MHC), an EQUUS Foundation Alliance Member.
"This is an exciting time for both MHC and the EQUUS Foundation. Both organizations will benefit from a closer affiliation. The programs that have been so successful within the state of Maryland will be showcased on a national stage through a deepened relationship with the EQUUS Foundation," said Carrie Hull.

The state of Maryland has been a national leader in equine welfare reforms and continues to produce some of the most innovative programs to date, including, most recently, the Maryland Equine Transition Service (METS). METS, also an Alliance Member of the EQUUS Foundation, is a statewide mobile assessment initiative of the Maryland Horse Council that provides safe alternatives for horses needing homes by helping owners identify and select the best transition options.
"I'm excited to bring this energy to the EQUUS Foundation and help secure the welfare of our horses across the US through a significant national fundraising campaign," continued Hull. "We look forward to working with the MHC and METS to encourage other states and communities to replicate the METS model," said Lynn Coakley, EQUUS Foundation President.
Carrie grew up on her family's horse farms, first in Baltimore County, Maryland and at Hullfields Farm located in Montgomery County, Maryland. Her mother, Susan Hull, rode on the hunter circuit before having twins. "My sister and I were basically born in the saddle and we both got our start competing in lead line classes," Carrie said. Carrie found her niche in dressage and competed in that discipline until she went to college. She graduated with a Bachelor's in International Affairs from the George Washington University, where she helped form the school's Intercollegiate Horse Show Association team.
Carrie has been an active volunteer for a number of high-profile equine-related organizations in the capital region, including the Washington International Horse Show. She is also now involved with the Campaign to Rebuild the US Park Police Stables on the National Mall. Within the state of Maryland, she is working alongside several prominent horse industry leaders to promote the new Fair Hill CCI5* event debuting in October 2020. This will be only the 7th CCI5* in the world and the second in the United States.
For the first decade of her career, Carrie worked in investment management. She was a member of Bank of America's LEAD for Women, an employee resource group for women dedicated to promoting women's professional development. Carrie was also the committee leader for the Merrill Lynch Capital Region Women's Exchange, a networking and mentoring program with over 5,000 members nationwide.
Prior to joining the Maryland Horse Council, Carrie was the Director of Planned Giving and Strategic Engagement at the Goldwater Institute in Phoenix, AZ. Carrie has worked on staff as a gift planner and major gifts officer at the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution where she directed a well-established planned giving program and managed a traditional portfolio of major gift prospects.
