Wild About Horses in the Hamptons
Showcases Steven Latham's upcoming documentary, "The Mustangs: An American Story"

Torrential rain couldn't keep horse lovers in the Hamptons from coming out on a mid-week evening during the Hampton Classic Horse Show to join the EQUUS Foundation to celebrate a unique, new documentary by award-winning producer and director, Steven Latham, about the complicated and tragic dilemma facing America's Wild Horses while also highlighting some hopeful and triumphant solutions.

Philanthropists, Joan and George Hornig, greeted over 125 guests as they entered the great room of the Hornig's stunning historic art barn in Water Mill, New York, on Wednesday evening, August 28th. In welcoming the guests, Joan Hornig said, "George and I were not only honored to provide the venue for the Wild About Horses event in the Hamptons, but also thrilled about how the evening unfolded. The spirit in the barn was one of warmth and kindness on a night of monsoon rains."

"The evening was educational as well as enjoyable. The speakers shared highlights of the range of programs the EQUUS Foundation supports which focus on the healing power horses provide to those who are hard to help through more traditional therapies. The magnitude of the organization's successes was brought home further through the addition of Steven Latham’s beautiful movie clip which is so moving that even non-horse lovers could appreciate why preserving these amazing American icons is an obligation we all share."

Hornig continued, "The EQUUS Foundation supporters in attendance during the Hampton Classic week fully understand that securing the welfare of horses extends far beyond those used for sport or show. This generous riding community is filled with compassion and respect for the special relationship people and horses have shared throughout history, underscoring why it is so important for all of us to support the work of the EQUUS Foundation."

Guests were treated to the finest in vegetarian dining by Distinctive Catering, signature cocktails featuring Ketel One Botanicals, and champagne by Chandon California, but clearly, the highlight of the evening was the opportunity for guests to view the powerful preview of Latham's "The Mustangs: An American Story" in the Hornig's private screening room - bringing many to tears of hope for these majestic horses.

"After spending more than a year filming wild horses throughout the west, it was a privilege to have the first preview of my movie with the EQUUS Foundation at the home of Joan and George Hornig," said Steven Latham, producer of 'The Mustangs: An American Story.'

The evening was incredible. It's gratifying that the subject of wild horses helped bring together an amazing group of people during the Hampton Classic. The guests had lots of questions about the plight of mustangs and their future. I'm hoping this film continues to raise awareness and helps bring new appreciation, protection and better management of these iconic animals."

"The EQUUS Foundation supports second chances and new opportunities for all of America's horses. It is time to tell the story about these spirited and intelligent icons of the American West in a way everyone can appreciate and embrace," said Valerie Angeli, EQUUS Foundation Vice President.

"Steven Latham's film does an outstanding job of detailing the issue in the most beautiful and inspiring way, showing us that there are solutions on the horizon for these magical horses. Our intention for this special evening is to raise awareness about the issue and to step up our efforts to support programs for wild horses whose lives depend on our support," continued Angeli.
