Glorious Weather and Rays of Hope for Horses in Transition at the 2019 Hampton Classic Animal Adoption Day!

Monday afternoon, August 26th, was a picture-perfect day to showcase adoptable horses in transition and present inspirational and educational horse welfare demonstrations at the beautiful Hampton Classic Horse Show. Thanks to the Hampton Classic, the EQUUS Foundation took the lead once again in organizing and presenting the event with the goal of celebrating all of America's horses and inspiring action for horses at risk that need our help.

Over 200 spectators filled the large, grass show ring to see adoptable horses of all sizes strut their stuff and inspire the crowd with their stories of triumph after rescue.

EQUUStars, Georgina Bloomberg, sponsor of the annual Hampton Classic Animal Adoption Day (which includes dogs, cats and rabbits!), and Brianne Goutal-Marteau hosted the day along with the EQUUS Foundation and its Vice President, Valerie Angeli.

Joining the EQUUS Foundation were Guardians, Omega Horse Rescue, Airville, PA, and Rising Starr Horse Rescue, West Redding, CT, along with EQUUS Foundation Alliance member, The Retired Racehorse Project, and the Mustang Heritage Foundation. Each of the participating equine welfare groups received much-needed bath and grooming products from Mane n' Tail. The HEART Equine Ambulance was open to the public for tours. Delicious snacks for the event were provided to spectators by The Golden Pear and water was provided by Essentia Water.

"This is one of our most anticipated and joyful events of the year when horse lovers and the horse community come out to the beautiful Hampton Classic on a Monday with the sole purpose of supporting at-risk and transitioning horses that need our help, and to learn what they can do to make all horses feel like champions!," said Angeli.

"This is a chance for those who love horses to hear the back stories of wonderful horses that need a next chapter and cheer them on to find new homes. I am thrilled to report that at least two horses have been adopted at our event and there is interest and applications on others. The mini horses, Whoa Nelly, from Rising Starr Horse Rescue and Bubba D from Omega Horse Rescue have been adopted and have already gone home to assume their new roles as much-loved barn mascots in show barns."

Intercollegiate teams across the United States depend on the donation of horses in transition so that riders can pursue their intercollegiate equestrian goals -- and many riders depend on the Rider's Closet for their equestrian apparel.

Founded by Georgina Bloomberg in 2006 to ensure that riding apparel is accessible to scholastic riding programs, pony clubs, equestrian camp programs, equine charities and individual riders in need, the Rider's Closet merged with the EQUUS Foundation this year.

The event was a wonderful opportunity for spectators to learn more about the EQUUS Foundation. "What a beautiful day to bring the equine community and horse lovers together," said Angeli. Every horse that needs a home that we can help place is safe and makes room for another that needs a lifeline. We are so grateful for this annual, magical day at the Hampton Classic."
