Lila came to AAE after law enforcement intervention/seizure in a neglect case involving 24 horses, which became 25 horses when a colt was born after seizure. We were told law enforcement stepped in when they learned of horses that had been abandoned on a large, remote, high desert property.
Lila is incredibly sweet and affectionate. She was relatively easy to introduce haltering, leading, and hoof handling. Sadly, she has an old soft tissue injury to her hind leg (very thickened tendon), which will likely limit her riding future. That said, Lila runs with the herd, and she isn't obviously lame.
Lila is easy to handle, she's good with the farrier, and she's good for vet care. She's easy-going, laid back, and generally a really, really nice mare. So far, she's been willing to try all we ask, and she's a quick learner. She enjoys every bit of attention she gets. Lila is available for adoption as a non-riding companion.
Lila was adopted by a prior adopter after the loss of both of her senior horses (within a month of each other). Lila was adopted as a non-riding companion to bring back the joy of horse ownership to her new mom.
This is a successful adoption for at least two reasons, first, non-riding horses are more difficult to find good homes for, and second, Lila's new mom, Dina, is couldn't be a better horse mom. If all owners cared for their horses like Dina does, we wouldn't have the horse issues we have today.
