Safe Landings

Equine Welfare Network:
There's a saying, "Look no further than your own backyard". The first place to start your search for a next chapter for your horse is reaching out to equine organizations in your area. Our Equine Welfare Network is designed to connect individuals with equine organizations. Click here to search for organizations in close proximity to where your horse is located.

Equine Assisted Services:
If you believe that your horse may be suitable as a therapy horse, there are a number of organizations that certify professionals to conduct Equine Assisted Services. We suggest you click here for information about the expectations for therapy horses.

You may wish to search the PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) site here for equine charities. PATH Intl. is one of the most highly regarded credentialing organization for accrediting centers and certifying instructors and equine specialists.

You may also wish to search the Eagala (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) site here. Eagala was one of the first to develop a concrete model of professional standards for incorporating horses into mental health treatment.

Intercollegiate/Interscholastic Equine Athletic Programs:
Our Equine Education Network lists colleges and universities with equine programs including athletic activities. Click here to search for organizations in your area that may be looking for program horses.

The Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) consists of Hunt Seat, Western and Dressage teams nationwide to introduce students in private and public middle and secondary schools to equestrian sports. There may be teams in your area searching for program horses. Visit IEA here.

Certified Equestrian Facilities
The Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) certifies equine professionals (arena instructors, trail guides, instructors of riders with disabilities, vaulting coaches, driving instructors and drivers, equine facility managers and seasonal equestrian staff) and accredits equine facilities to promote excellencein horsemanship safety and education. Click here to search for CHA equine facilities in your area.

Mounted Police Units
Another option is searching for a mounted patrol unit in your area. Click here for the Wikipedia link on mounted patrol units -- keeping in mind that the suitability requirements for a mounted police horse may be similar to those of a therapy horse.
