Stepping Out Campaign Raises $25,000 for America's Horses
The EQUUS Foundation is proud to announce the results of its Stepping Out for America's Horses Campaign presented by The Robb Report to provide direct support for the care of equines representing participating EQUUS Foundation Guardian charities.
Every horse, even champions of the racetrack and show ring, may only be one lucky step away from abuse, neglect and slaughter. EQUUS Foundation's Stepping Out Campaign raises funds to safeguard the comfort and dignity of America's horses who not only have been the victim of abuse and neglect – and saved from being shipped off to slaughter, but also who have careers at equine therapeutic centers and are enriching and improving the lives of people who are facing hardships.
Nearly 300 horse lovers participated in this year's campaign. Congratulations to Alexa Greenblatt for raising the most funds, totaling to $2,285 on behalf of Lil' Richard of Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue, followed by Jenny Belknap raising $1,125 for Deuce of Brook Hill Farm, and Natalie Jackson raising $925 for Blue Moon of Mini Therapy Horses.
When Lil' Richard was born at Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue last year, he needed immediate veterinary care and had to fight for his life. Thanks to donors, today he is healthy, happy, and plenty sassy. His resiliency and strength are an inspiration to volunteers and visitors to the rescue.
Deuce was a grand prix jumper until he injured his hock. Left unattended in a stall, he was rescued by Brook Hill Farm. Today, he teaches at-risk youth perseverance, resilience and confidence. Like him, they are learning to work through their struggles in order to succeed!
Whether Blue Moon, a six-year old American Miniature Horse at Mini Therapy Horses, is participating in physical therapy sessions with the kids or comforting patients bedside as they come out of anesthesia, she always brings joy, comfort and hope to everyone she meets.
